2009 Preakness Stakes Information
The Preakness is the second race of the American thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown series. It attracts horses from the Kentucky Derby such as the winner and the horses that didn’t start and some others. In this case we have the Kentucky Derby winner and the Third place in that same race listed to run the 134th Preakess Stakes. The race is going to be taking place at Pimlico race track located at Baltimore, Maryland.
The Preakness is 1 3/16 miles, compared to the Kentucky Derby, which is 1 1/4 miles. This race is followed by the third leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes, which is 1 1/2 miles long. The Preakness is a little bit shorter than the Kentucky Derby, but still being two minutes of excitement that makes this event the second horse race most awaited in the year.
Since 1931, the order of Triple Crown races has the Kentucky Derby first, followed by the Preakness Stakes and then the Belmont Stakes. This time, the Preakness is going to be celebrated the May, 16th, 2009.
On the other hand, as mentioned before, we are waiting to see the performance of the 135th Kentucky Derby winner “Mine That Bird” as well as the third place in that race: “Musket Man”. Both are three year old horses that have a lot to offer to the race. The odds are up for Mine That Bird, will it be able to make history winning the second leg of the Triple Crown event?
